The Flower
Girl
A flower girl’s role in a wedding is very important. A
flower girl is usually a young girl between the ages of four and eight who has a
special connection to the bride and the groom. She follows behind the bride
maids sometimes before and sometimes after the maid of honor. She is usually a
niece or cousin or a family friend of the bride. Sometime, she may be daughter
of bride’s friend.
Generally, her male equivalent is the ring bearer or page boy. Often they
make together to look like a couple as with the best man and maid of honor.
At the British royal wedding, there may be several flower girls. Generally,
flower girl scatters the flower petals on the way towards the aisle or holds a
bouquet.
Choosing a flower girl is rather obvious. When you have several relatives,
you can go for more than a one flower girl. It will add only add to their
confidence and you can have more cute faces around you. Avoid choosing someone
who is too young. She might get confused or perhaps scared. An older girl may be
more suited for a job such as reader or junior bridesmaid.
If your choices are unsuitable or not that close to you, there is no reason
of having a flower girl. You can do some things which can make her more
comfortable. One of the best ways to do this is to buy her a book about a flower
girl which will explain her role and get her excited. You should boost her
confidence level. Make her parents seat on the aisle, in the front. She will
look more relaxed if her parents are in her sight during the ceremony.
Be friendly with her. You can ask a bridesmaid to be her buddy and make sure
she takes enough rest before the ceremony. Most of all don’t be too nervous that
she will make a mistake.
If she runs instead of walks or dumps all her petals at the start of the
aisle or even starts to cry, don’t get annoyed or show any nervous signs
yourself. It will not make an unpleasant impression on the guests. Guests will
be much pleased and excited to see her cute things and pranks.
While choosing beautiful attire for the flower girl, take a proper
consideration of her height and age. Often, a flower girl is dressed in a
mini-version of the bride’s dress or she can wear a white dress with a sash that
matches the bridesmaid’s dresses. You can choose any sweet dress that tie into
the look of the wedding. Make sure she
is comfortable in whatever attire she wore. It should not be too long so that
she won’t be pulling at her dress or tripping down the aisle. If the flower girl
is not so fond of dresses, you can buy a pant for her with the same level of
formality as the bridesmaid dresses.
Beautiful jewels which are somewhat simple can also adore her. Some light
makeup and an impressive hair do can turns her look. If she is having long hair,
a small bun or a pony tail can be done.
Lots of dresses and accessories are available at bridal shops or
children’s clothing stores. Generally, the parents of the girl pay for their
daughter’s dress; you can try to choose something relatively inexpensive.
